I am humbled and honoured that the people of Heywood and Middleton have elected me as their MP for the next 5 years.
Nationally, the election results were obviously not what I would have hoped for. The Labour Party suffered a terrible defeat and was rejected by the British public. But the election has now been and gone, and while the debate within the Labour Party about what went wrong and how we recover will go on, I am absolutely focused on the people of Heywood and Middleton.
The future is uncertain, with more cuts to local services on the way, more changes to the NHS, and more hot air from a government with little interest in Heywood and Middleton. That's why I'll be fighting with everything I've got for a fairer deal for our local area, and for each and every resident in Heywood and Middleton.
