Liz backs EU #righttostay campaign

This week I was delighted to show my support for the campaign to support EU nationals currently living in Britain and protect their #righttostay post-Brexit.

When the Article 50 Bill came before parliament I supported an amendment to give EU nationals a guarantee that they were welcome to stay in Britain. The motion was sadly defeated by the government.

Besides the quite obvious moral and ethical case for providing reassurance to foreign nationals and their families, there is also concern (recently reported here) about the legal and administrative chaos any uncertainty could create.

The Prime Minister herself has recently been reported to have given her backing to EU nationals' right to stay (see here) and if true it is surprising she opposed the amendment to guarantee this right when given the chance.

If you are an EU national unsure of your future or you know someone who might be affected by this issue, advice is available from Unison - click here for more information
