Leasehold rip-off must end

The government have announced a review into the selling of leasehold properties following a campaign to highlight the scandal of huge leasehold bills.

I am pleased that the government is proposing scrapping the sale of leasehold properties for new-builds in the future, but I am concerned about the many families who are already stuck with these scandalous rip-off charges. Thousands of homeowners, including hundreds in Heywood and Middleton who have been in touch with me in recent months, are already in homes which are virtually impossible to sell thanks to huge and ever-increasing leasehold bills.

I will be responding to the consultation to urge action to protect existing leaseholders, and I call on as many people as possible to send this message to the government.

Extortionate leasehold charges are proving to be the PPI of the housebuilding industry and the sooner the rip-off ends the better.

The consultation runs until September 19th and you can read the full consultation paper by clicking here.
