NHS workers do not take strike action lightly. Those that do deserve our full support.
We've all been shocked by how badly Jeremy Hunt and the Conservative government have handled this dispute. The British Medical Association, for so long a respected and trusted association for professional and dedicated staff, has seen its reputation attacked by Hunt and his government, and Junior Doctors themselves have had their intelligence and judgement questioned. This saga has been nothing less than an appalling - and avoidable - embarrassment for the Tories.
Junior Doctors have been forced to take strike action only as a result of the complete failure of the Health Secretary to take their concerns seriously and engage with them to agree a solution. I was proud to stand on the picket line with Junior Doctors last week and to speak in support of them in parliament, and I will continue to support them in their fight.
