Statement regarding CQC report into Ashbourne House

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) have this week released their latest inspection report of Ashbourne House care home in Middleton.

I was shocked when allegations of abuse were reported in January (see here), and today I have released the following statement regarding this latest report:

‘The CQC report is utterly shocking. Like everyone else, when news first broke in January of the allegations of abuse I was appalled. This latest report sets out a litany of failings, and makes it clear that the home’s response to previous calls for improvement has been woefully inadequate. I am grateful to the CQC for their work, and questions must now be asked as to how this home was allowed to continue to operate in this manner.

My heart goes out to the people who lived in the nursing home and their loved ones. I am absolutely disgusted at the treatment they have received and immediate action must now be taken.’
