I have been contacted by many residents worried about the possible closure of Birtle View Medical Practice, and I am happy to give them my support.
Like the many people who have contacted me, I was surprised when I heard that the centre was being considered for closure.
As I have already made clear recently, I have pledged my support to patients and staff fighting to keep Middleton Walk-in Centre open (see here) and I also fully support people trying to make the case for Birtle View to remain part of our community.
I have spoken to the press this week about it to try and raise awareness, and I am also seeking a meeting with the CCG so that I can hear their arguments and so I can make the case loudly and clearly for keeping the Practice open.
As many residents will be aware, Birtle View Medical Practice only opened in 2009 and has fantastic facilities. Many people contacting me are not just worried about it closing, but are understandably angry that a brand-new, modern health practice could be closed after only 6 years. With the NHS under increasing financial pressure, closing it would look like a huge waste of money.
I will do all I can to ensure that the CCG make the best decisions in the interests of patients.
