Liz McInnes MP has issued the following statement regarding allegations of abuse at Ashbourne House care home, Middleton, as reported by the Manchester Evening News.

'The allegations of abuse at Ashbourne House are incredibly serious. Care workers are in a position of unique trust, and patients and their families should be able to have total confidence that they will be cared for properly and treated with respect. If these claims are true, there has been a gross breach of this trust and the perpetrators deserve to be punished to the full extent of the law.’

'I have written to managers at the care home and also to Peter Wyman, Chair of the Care Quality Commission, and Greater Manchester Police Chief Constable Ian Hopkins, to demand a full investigation into these appalling allegations. I am grateful to reporters at the Manchester Evening News for bringing this to light, and I will do all I can to hold the responsible authorities to account.'
